About Jake Schmidt and The Journeymen

With vocals that simply “take wing” when he opens his mouth, Jake Schmidt of Buhler, KS, has been endearing himself to multitudes of fans both in his native Kansas and beyond for more than a decade.  It's obvious he's been blessed with a gift and a heart for songwriting and performing. Having recently finished his second album, "The Bridge", a nice complement to his earlier, well-received album called "the World Stood Still", his next recording is slated to be a live and partially acoustic album, especially exciting to anticipate as Jake thrives on being onstage face to face with his audience.  Jake doesn’t just sing to people, he communicates the song and its emotions with body, soul and spirit.  If you have watched Jake stand still while he’s singing, you’ve encountered an imposter!

Buhler local Steve Spencer, a most proficient guitarist, musician and instructor, is also an all around helpful and thoughtful guy.   His experience over the years with various touring bands is obvious, from his tasty licks to his stage humor and wide range of playing styles.  Plan to be surprised by Steve’s seasoned delivery on guitar and harmonies.

Bass guitar Doug Yoder, yes, from Yoder, KS, reserved yet dangerously effective, seems to keep in the groove just from pure will power.  He could do this with his eyes closed, and his intuitive playing sets a great foundation.  But don't be fooled - Doug can rock it with the best!  And one of the most genuinely nice guys you'll meet.

Hutchinson resident Nick Egli on drums smirks like a young George Clooney getting ready to tell you the punch line of a really dumb joke, but when he hits the drums, it's serious business.  Of course the band counts on him throwing them some surprises from time to time!

Rounding out the group, from Wichita, KS, is keyboardist and backing vocalist Larry Jensen.   Accomplished cocktail pianist, and having recently come off from regular touring with a regional country act, Larry is excited to get to spend more time writing, arranging, doing studio and accompaniment work and playing with folks that have the same goals in serving the Lord through their musical talents.

These guys deliver their musical messages with a smile and a punch.  Whether using the vehicle of southern gospel, country or western, jazz, or contemporary Christian, they arrive at their journey’s end every performance, joyfully communicating God’s message of love and forgiveness.  Jake Schmidt and The Journeymen want their audiences they find in their musical journey to know that God’s blessings AND claims on their lives are as real and wonderful today as ever!
